A residential mortgage is essentially a large loan designed to help the borrower purchase a house with the property in question put up as security.
Refinancing is done to allow a borrower to obtain a better interest rate, investment and lower the monthly payment.
A commercial mortgage is a mortgage loan secured by commercial property, such as an office building, shopping center, industrial warehouse, or apartment complex.
A construction mortgage is a loan borrowed to finance the construction of a home and typically only interest is paid during the construction period.

A second mortgage is an additional loan taken out on a property that is already mortgaged.
